Mr. Hussein Issah Sulemana, DCE nominee for the Karaga district was on Tuesday September 14 rejected by members of the assembly.
Mr. Hussein whose nomination triggered violence that led to the burning of NDC sheds and other paraphernalia in the Karaga district polled 20 out of 34 votes and failed to get the required 2/3 majority.
His confirmation was conducted under heavy security made up of a combination of police and military contingent deployed from Tamale to curtail any untoward behavior.
Before the confirmation exercise commenced, Mr. Moses Bukari Mabengba, Northern Regional Minister appealed to the assembly persons to take a cue from their colleagues in Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo district who overwhelmingly endorsed Mr. Philip Laari with 100% scoring on Monday 13.
The Regional Minister’s plea however fell on deaf ears and Mr. Hussein Sulemana’s rejection means that members of the assembly will have to converge in 10 days time for the second confirmation exercise.
Supporters of the rejected DCE nominee have threatened to attack members of the Assembly alleging that members of the assembly demanded mobile phones and monies as enticement from Mr. Hussein with the assurance of approving him.
Meanwhile, DCE nominee for the Yendi Municipality’s confirmation comes off on Friday September 17.
