SUSPECTED ROBBER LYNCHED IN TAMALE


A 28 year old suspected criminal, Amadu Alhassan has been murdered and dumped in a bush around the Aboabo Forest behind the new Tamale Sports Stadium on early hours of Tuesday August 31st

2010.

The Aboabo Forest Reserved is gradually turning into a dangerous zone especially for the nearby residents since it has become a home and hidden place for criminals, wee smokers and a market centre for the sale of stolen items.

Within the last four months, the Aboabo Forest has witnessed three other killings of unidentified young men.

Some residents in the area who spoke to savannahnews on the grounds of anonymity claimed that the deceased was a known rapist, mobile phone snatcher and pick pocket at Nyohini-Yapala in the Tamale Metropolis.

According to some of the residents, a day before his death, Amadu Alhassan robbed some two ladies of their mobile phones and went into hiding.

Even though it is not clear as to who or what caused his murder which has somewhat brought joy to the women in the area, he was found completely naked, tied firmly with ropes around the legs, through the waist and the neck to the hands.

When savannahnews got to the scene the deceased was still lying in a pool of blood and there were traces of heavy stones, clubs and other offensive weapons believed to have been used by his assassins.

The killers mercilessly disfigured his face with objects leaving some deep cuts around the head and other parts of the body.

Some of the residents from Zogbeli who spoke to the blogger called on the city authorities to involve the Military to chase away the criminals from the forest and fence the whole area to save the residents from the frequent grip of fears.

They also appealed for the repair of the nonfunctioning streetlights in the area. Meanwhile, the body of Amadu Alhassan has been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital by the Police for identification.
