GUSHEGU DISTRICT GETS MORE EDUCATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE

The Gushegu District Assembly in the Northern Region is making frantic efforts to improve on the standard of education in the district with the provision of classroom blocks and furniture at the basic level in some deprived communities.

The Assembly with support from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GRTfund) is constructing 1 No 6-units classroom block each with ancillary facilities at Pulo, Nasandi, Goma, Kpatinga and the Gaa communities.

Additionally, the Assembly has been provided with 3,000 dual desks for the primary schools, 1,500 mono desks for the Junior High Schools as well as the provision of 600 tables and chairs for the Kindergartens for distribution this month before school resumes.

The Gushegu District is one of the most deprived in the Northern Region with most of its schools still studying under trees. Lack of teachers accommodation has also been a major problem hence the declining standard of education. But this government through the Ministry of Education has prioritized the provision of educational infrastructure to reverse the situation.

The District Chief Executive for Gushegu, Hon. Fuseini Alhassan at the Second Ordinary Meeting held in Gushegu this week pledged government’s commitment in ensuring the promotion of quality education, healthcare delivery, provision of water, electricity, infrastructure and other basic amenities in line with the better Ghana agenda.

The DCE however commended the Education Minister, Hon. Alex Tetteh Enyo for fulfilling his promise of eliminating or reducing the studies under trees in the deprived communities in Ghana. It is believed that about 2000 basic schools in the Northern Region are studying under trees.

According to the DCE, plans have been far advanced by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Ministry of Health to construct a Health Assistance Training School in Gushegu next year.

Hon. Fuseini complained about the insufficient health personnel in the district as a result of which the assembly was sponsoring 25 students at the various health institutions to serve in communities where their services were needed.

On rural electrification, he said some communities in the district that lacked electricity have been selected to benefit the Northern Rural Electrification Project initiated by government this year.

However, Hon. Fuseini Alhassan commended residents of the area for preserving the fragile peace they were enjoying and urged them to cooperate with the security operatives on local peace keeping mission.

He revealed that the assembly had made several strives to meet the Better Ghana agenda within the first term of the President Mills administration and was confident that the people of Ghana would give the government a second term to complete its unfinished agenda.

In a related development, the DCE for Gushegu Alhassan Fuseini has personally donated relief items including roofing sheets to several households that were gutted by fire recently in the district.

He hinted that the donation financed with his own resources was meant to help the affected households to rebuild while the assembly takes steps to alleviate their plight.

The District NADMO Coordinator, Mr. Ibrahim Mahama Jamoni advised residents of the district to beware of the dangers associated with bush burning and desist from such practices.
