RETIRED N/R PRISONS DIR. APPOINTED DCE FOR BUNKPURUGU

Just as he was overwhelmingly confirmed as the new District Chief Executive for Bunkprugu Yunyoo District, Mr. Philip Laari, retired Deputy Northern Regional Director of the Ghana Prisons Service has been handed a herculean task to restore peace and dignity in the troubled Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo District.

The Northern Regional Minister, Moses Bukari Mabengba, who officiated the confirmation ceremony did not hesitate in admonishing the new DCE to reconcile the disintegrated people in the various communities under his jurisdiction and also ensure that he carried all of them along to ensure maximum development in the area.

Mr. Philip Laari who succeeds the fired former DCE, Hajia Mavis Meliga Bawa polled 37 out of 37 votes cast representing 100 percent in the 40 member assembly. Three members were absent.

The election was conducted peacefully by the electoral commission.

His smooth confirmation did not only depict the readiness of the local to ensure socio-economic development in the area but some Prison Service staff who traveled from Tamale to Bunkprugu to witness the confirmation ceremony.

However, the Northern Regional Minister thanked the assembly for confirming Mr. Laari and challenged them to promote peace in support of the government’s better Ghana agenda.

On his part, the new DCE Philip Laari thanked the assembly members for reposing their trust and confidence in him.

He therefore pledged his commitment to operate an open door policy and also work with the Chiefs and people in the area to ensure the needed development.

Even though the area has been plagued by land and chieftaincy disputes Mr. Laari says peace is gradually returning and appealed to the people of the district to jealously guard the relative peace.

Mr. Laari said his administration will focus on agriculture, education, infrastructural development and jobs for especially the women and youth of the area, adding he will make consultation a priority in his administration.

Meanwhile, confirmation for the president’s nominee for Karaga district comes off tomorrow (on Tuesday) while Yendi’s date is yet to be confirmed.

President J.E.A. Mills last month appointed three persons to replace three DCEs who were sacked earlier in the year at Karaga, Yendi and the Bunkprugu Yunyoo districts.
