REHABILITATION & EXPANSION WORK ON TTH PROGRESSES

The On-going rehabilitation, expansion and upgrading of the Tamale Teaching Hospital is fast progressing. The 43.9 million euro project which started in April 2010 is expected to be completed in 56 months. Even though it is far from completion, the excellent and artistic touches of the contractors (Consar Ltd/Simed International) largely explains how beautiful the facility would appear after completion.

The hospital which was inaugurated in 1974, has since not received any major rehabilitation, until recently when it attracted the full attention of government through the instrumentality of the management of the hospital led by Dr. Ken Sagoe.

President John Evans Atta Mills himself cut the sod for the commencement of the project and was awarded to Messrs Simed International. In spite of its dilapidated nature and all the teething challenges it poses, personnel of the hospital have been able to brave all odds to put smiles on the faces of the numerous patients who patronise the hospital including the recent high profile personality; the Deputy Education Minister, Mahama Ayariga who is also a former Member of Parliament for Bawku and former Presidential Spokesperson to President Mills.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Dr. Ken Sagoe told this blogger that the upgrading would offer the hospital the opportunity to achieve its mandate as a teaching hospital, and its vision of becoming a centre of excellence for quality tertiary healthcare, medical education and research.

Meanwhile, the expansion work will provide additional one thousand beds to the existing four hundred (400), with staff accommodation, teaching and research facilities to befit a world class Teaching Hospital.
