NYOHINI CHILDREN’S HOME FACES FINANCIAL CONSTRAINT AND FOOD SHORTAGE

The Northern Regional Police Fellowship has presented food items and other provisions valued at GH¢1,100.00 to the inmates of the Tamale Children’s Home in Tamale.

The donation followed several appeals made by supervisors of the orphanage to benevolent individuals and corporate institutions to come to their aid.

According to one of the Supervisors of the Tamale Children’s Home, Madam Agarlic Alice who received the donation, the home is now constraint in terms of funds and hit by food shortage, saying “support from government to run the home is very meager”.

She reiterated earlier appeals to wealthy individuals and philanthropic groups in the Northern Region to extend a hand of support to the children.

The Deputy Northern Regional Police Commander, ACP Mathew Kojo-Appiah Agyei on behalf of the Regional Police Command and Fellowship, presented five mini bags of rice, gallons of edible oil, a bag of maize, cartons of milk, beverages, toilet rolls, detergents among others including a cash amount of GH¢600.00 to Madam Agarlic.

Apart from financial and food problems facing the orphanage, there is also a serious sanitation problem around its premises which is being perpetuated by residents of the Nyohini Community where the Home is located. They defaecate indiscriminately close to the orphanage and also engage in pilfering of electrical cables in the home.

However, the Deputy Regional Police Commander promised to ensure that the regional police patrol team, extend their night patrol duty to the home.

Meanwhile, Madam Alice Agarlic on behalf of the Tamale Children’s Home expressed her gratitude to members of the Northern Regional Police Fellowship for their gesture and appealed to the government and general public for more support.
