TAMALE KEEP-FIT CLUBS, SPINAL CLINIC ORGANISED PEACE-WALK

“We want peace in Dagbon, we want peace in Tamale, we want peace in Ghana,” were some of the messages screamed loudly to the hearing of residents of the Tamale Metropolis, as hundreds of young men and women belonging to various keep-fit clubs joined a peace-walk organized by Chiropractic Around the World, an NGO, with sponsorship from the Spinal Clinic.

The monthly peace-walk scheduled on the last Saturday of each month is aimed at promoting peace in the Northern Region and educating the people about the importance of living healthier lives.

The second edition of the peace-walk came on the heels of fragile peace in the Tamale Metropolis following an Accra Fast-track High Court’s decision to acquit and discharge 15 members of the Abudu Royal Family accused of the murder of the late Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II a week ago.

The decision of the court evoked tension and violence as Andani Youth who are also supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) destroyed party structures and other property running into several thousands of cedis.

According to Dr. Bryan Cox, founder of the Chiropractic Around the World and Chief Executive Officer of the Spinal Clinic, he was hesitant to set up a branch of his clinic in the Northern sector because of the perception that, the people were violent.

He said upon persistent encouragement by friends and some well-wishers, he took a bold step and finally decided to establish the Spinal Clinic in the Tamale Metropolis.

Dr. Cox noted that, as part of his objectives, he is using the presence of his clinic to build confidence among potential investors so that they will help develop the North.

“I am here to reduce the perception that the people of the Northern Region are violent, to let the people of Ghana and the world know that it is only a few who are causing violence and not the majority, to get the media to also publicize the positive things that occur in the North instead of just the negative aspects”, he pointed out.

The C.E.O of the Spinal Clinic promised to educate the people about the importance of the spine and exercise for their wellbeing, proper health habits like eating, taking plenty water and rest.

Chiropractic Around the World for the past three years have educated millions of Ghanaians about the importance of the spine and proper healthy living through different media sources and awareness programmes.

Some of the events include the monthly peace-walks, going to orphanages and schools to educate children on the importance of healthy living, offering free treatments to the less fortunate among others.

Meanwhile, the three hour peace-walk which started around 6am at the Jubilee Park saw participants walked through some principal streets of Tamale to Sakasaka, Vodafone, Aboabo, Zogbeli, Legion and back to the starting point.

Participants made a stop at the Tamale Chief Palace where the Dakpemah Naa Mohammed Alhassan Dawuni expressed his gratitude to the organizers of the peace-walk.
