Gonja King Promises Wa All Stars a New Bus

The King of Gonjaland and President of the Gonja Traditional Council, His Royal Majesty Yagbonwura Tuntumba Bore Essa I, has promised to give newly crowned league leaders, Wa All Stars, a new bus.

His Royal Majesty the Yagbonwura said it was very sad to see the team in a rented bus of a senior high school in the Upper West Region, hence his promise to donate a bus to the team.

Yagbonwura Tuntumba I made this known at the Jakpa Palace in Damongo when the entire team and management of Wa All Stars paid a courtesy call on him to present their trophy and seek his blessings and guidance as the team prepared for the CAF champions league.

He appealed to the team to remain united and focus, saying the task ahead of them was not for a divided front or a complacent team. “Team work will raise high the flag of Wa All Stars and Ghana as a whole”.

Yagbonwura was full of praises for the players and the entire management of Wa All Stars for being the first premier league winners from Northern Ghana.

Being a sports pundit himself, he said what even made their victory more significant was the fact that since organised league football began in Ghana in 1956, no team from the three regions of the north had ever won such a coveted prize.

In a brief message on behalf of the team, the leader of the delegation Mr. Seth Pange thanked the King of Gonjaland for his warm reception and words of wisdom for the team.
He stated that they were more than honoured by the promise His Majesty made to them of helping the team with a new bus and that they would support him with prayers to fulfill the promise.

Mr. Pange said that their presence at the Jakpa Palace was to officially present to Yagbonwura the trophy and also seek his blessings as the club would be appearing at the CAF Championship. “The club has taken the Tamale Sports Stadium as our home ground for this campaign”, he added.

He also indicated that anytime they were passing to Tamale for a home game, they would call on the King for his blessings, adding that the club would not let down the people of the North and Ghana.

The Wa-based club wrote their names in the history of Ghana football when they beat Aduana Stars of the Brong Ahafo Region to seal what had been a tight race. They annexed the title with 15 wins; six draws and eight defeats.

Wa All Stars' historic feat also meant the team, owned by President of Ghana’s Football Association, puts an end to many years of close shaves from teams in Northern Ghana, notably Real Tamale United. RTU for decades, have been the only serious challengers representing the three regions of the North when it comes to league football.

Meanwhile, His Royal Majesty Yagbonwura Tuntumba Bore Essa I presented a bull to the team for their victory party and challenged them to bring home the CAF trophy saying Northern and Ghana is behind them.
