Use Social Media To Promote Ndc Good Works, Not Personal Attacks –Azorka

THE Northern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Sofo Awudu Azorka, has cautioned the youth of the party who use various social media platforms to attack one another and other personalities to cease immediately.

  

According to him, one of the most effective strategies adopted by the party for its campaign from now till December 2016 was the use of social media. “Facebook, whatsApp and other platforms are effective platforms to promote the good works and achievements of President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC. 

“I’ll entreat you to use these mediums of communication wisely if you belong to any of them and not to use them to insult one another or destroy the good name and fortunes of the NDC”, Mr. Azorka made the call when he inaugurated the Socialists Institute of NDC in Tamale.

The Socialists Institute of NDC is an offshoot of the Social Media Communicators of NDC and the Communications Directorate of the NDC. Formed in 2014 in Tamale, President of Socialists Institute of NDC Mustapha Abdul Ganiyu told Savannahnews, “We use social media to promote the party and President Mahama’s good works”.

He explained that, members of the Institute travel to every district in Ghana to do documentaries on development projects initiated by the government and Assemblies. “We put such documentaries and pictures on various social media platforms the Institute has established its presence to let Ghanaians know what the NDC and its government have been able to do and continue to do.

“With this notion, the Socialists Institute of NDC hope to help the party and its presidential candidate for 2016 elections secure 57% of total votes that would be cast by Ghanaian electorate to enable him rule for another four years and bring the needed development to all citizens of the country”, Mr. Ganiyu emphasised.    

The NDC Northern Regional Secretary Lawyer Rauf Abdul Halid also used the occasion to commend party members who were using social media to promote the party, government and its good works. But, he expressed concern that the activities of some NDC members and supporters on social media were also counterproductive to the positive things they have been doing for the party.

He observed that, ministers and members of parliament who formed fun clubs in their name were not helping themselves and the party in any way. “Why is it that you don’t hear honourable Haruna attacking honourable Inusah personally on social media? Why is it that you don’t hear honourable Inusah attacking honourable Haruna? Why is it that you don’t hear honourable Muturla personally attacking somebody? And they’re quarrelling because of those of us in the party”, he indicated.

For well over a year now, there had been bad blood between the legislators for Tamale South Constituency Haruna Iddrisu and Tamale Central Constituency Inusah Fuseini. Supporters of these two legislators, who were said to be the main architects of the conflict between the two personalities, resorted to social media where they frequently engaged in invectives targeted at each other and the legislators they represented. 

Before the conflict between the two legislators and their supporters could be resolved, the legislator for Nanton Constituency Mohammed Muturla sometime in April also accused a colleague legislator in the party for trying to cause disaffection between him and his constituents so as to cause his exit from parliament. Though Muturla did not mention any name, many people pointed their fingers at Haruna Iddrisu based on the description given by the former. 

The occasion brought together various bigwigs of the NDC in the Northern Region. They included the Regional Treasurer and Director of Elections Tanko Rashid Computer, Regional Youth Organiser Alhaji Mohammed Amin Adam, Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive Mohammed Abdul Hanan Gundado, former District Chief Executive for Central Gonja Saulisu Be-Awuribe and President of Social Media Communicators of NDC Ohene Nana Bonti Krow among others.
