Show Seriousness in Bimbilla Chief's Murder - Govt Urged

The Paramount Chief of Buipe Traditional Area, Buipewura Abdulai Mahama Jinapor II has called on the ruling government to show serious commitment in its investigations into the gruesome murder of the Paramount Chief of Bimbilla Naa Dasana Dawuni Andani II and two others. 

The Bimbilla Naa was assassinated at his palace on June 19, 2014 alongside two of his brothers by some unknown gunmen shortly after evening Muslim prayer. The killers of the chief were reportedly dressed in police uniforms. Four other persons including a four month old baby were severely injured and were rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

The Buipewura therefore demanded the government to arrest and prosecute the killers of the Chief to serve as deterrent to those who had similar intentions to attack any chief in the region. 

Speaking in an interview with newsmen in Tamale, Buipewura Jinapor II raised serious concern about the breakdown of law and order especially among the youth of the various ethnic groups in the region leading to unwarranted attacks and conflicts. 

 “It is becoming dangerous for chiefs in the north because we don’t know after the killing of the Yaa-Naa and the Nanumba chief who the next target is.  So government must take this matter up seriously and prosecute the perpetrators accordingly so that it will not occur again”.

Before the murder of the Bimbilla Chief, the Overlord of Dagon Traditional Area, Ya-Na Yakubu Andani was also gruesomely murdered by some unknown assailants.

The Buipe Chief passionately appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to show personal interest in ensuring that justice was served to the families of the murdered chiefs. He also called on the government not to shield any of the perpetrators no matter their political, religious or social inclination in order to bring sanity into the chieftaincy institution.

Buipewura Jinapor II who was sworn in as a member of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs on Thursday 28th August 2014 by a Tamale High Court, pledged to work with members of the House to speed up all outstanding chieftaincy disputes. 

He said he was confident in the capabilities of the members of the House especially the judiciary committee in handling such disputed chieftaincy cases. A Tamale High Court judge, Mr. Justice Gabriel Ayisi Addo, who officiated the swearing in, appealed to the Buipewura to be firm in handling cases that would come before him in order to avoid discriminations or biasness. 

He also encouraged the Chief not to be intimidated by the social, political or religious status or position of any offender, but should rather treat all persons equally before the law to ensure that the poor and the rich as well as the weak and the strong were given equal justice.
