Pst Adjei (R) presenting items to Ms Quainoo (L) |
The Head Pastor of Christian Mission
Dunamis Church Tamale, Rev. Isaac Adjei has called for stiffer punishment to be
preferred against men who irresponsibly neglect women after impregnating them.
According to him,
such behavior on the part of most men had caused many women to end their lives
or abandon their children and run away to face life elsewhere. Many of the
Ghanaian children found on the streets of Accra and Kumasi are victims of
parental neglect with most of them taking to armed robbery, prostitution and
kayaye among others.
Rev. Adjei gave the
warning when the Youth Ministry of the Dunamis Church embarked on clean up exercise
at the Tamale Children's Home. The Exercise which was supported by the Zoomlion
Ghana Limited was part of activities marking the week-long Annual Youth
Celebration.
The Celebration was
under theme: "The Youth Arise- the work is done". The joyous youth
together with Rev. Isaac Adjei and his wife, Mrs. Georgina Adjei cleaned every
corner of the Home, mobbed the hostels, drained all gutters for free flow of
waste waters, weeded the compound and burnt the bushes.
The Youth Ministry
also made a special donation to the inmates at the Home which was supported by
Coca-cola Ghana Limited. Touched by the plight of the innocent children at the
Home who were between four months and eighteen years old, Rev. Adjei called on
the society, individuals and the government to help upgrade the facilities at
the Tamale Children's Home to ensure the proper upbringing of the kids.
He however commended
the Supervisors of the Home for taking proper care of the children. The
President of the Christian Mission Dunamis, Ms. Vida Afriyie who led the group
advised young ladies to desist from always losing their dignity and pride to
some irresponsible men who ended up ruining their future. Saying, "As
young ladies we need to live consecrate lives, wait upon the Lord until the men
come and traditionally, religiously and legally asked for their hands in
marriage before going to bed with them.
Ms. Afriyie appealed
to the young ladies to rather pursue their education and become self-reliant so
as to make them qualify for the carrying, loving and responsible men. The
Dunamis Youth President explained however that the clean up exercise and the
donation were done in accordance with the Church's principles to support the
needy or the vulnerable in society in order to encourage and bring them closer
to Christ Jesus.
The Supervisor of the
Tamale Children's Home, Madam Augustina Quainoo congratulated the Youth
Ministry of Christian Mission Dunamis for the show of care and support given to
the children. She complained about encroachment and open defecation on their
land by the nearby residents which she said exposed the children to so many
diseases and dangers.
Madam Quainoo
therefore called for support all to fence the land. She also complained about
the high electricity and medical bills. According to her, the Home is on
prepared meter and could sometimes stay in darkness for weeks when they run out
of credit and did not have money to purchase. She said most of the children's
are not on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and that the ineffectiveness
of the scheme had made it quite difficult for the authorities at the Home to
pay their medical bills.
