UniBank Donates To Shekhina Clinic

Shekhina Clinic, an infirmary which takes care of the poor and destitute from the Tamale Metropolis and beyond, has received financial support and treated used clothes as donation from one of Ghana’s wholly-owned indigenous financial institutions, UniBank Ghana.

The gesture according to the UniBank’s Head of Marketing and Public Relations Richard Osei Anane is part of their corporate social responsibility which is also in line with their mantra ‘Caring for you’.

 

The presentation a dummy cheque of GH¢5,000.00 and treated used clothes gathered from staff of UniBank in all branches across the country, follows a similar one done for Afrikids, a charity organisation based in the Upper East Regional capital town of Bolgatanga.

Established in 1989, Shekhina Clinic is located at Gurugu, a suburb of Tamale. With one resident medical doctor and a nurse, the clinic treats approximately 20,000 outpatients every year and around 1000 patients also undergo surgical operation. Approximately, 2500 are treated in the wards according to the clinic’s website.

Mr. Anane lauded the efforts of the founder of the clinic and its staff for braving all the odds to chart a course that is so exemplifying but attracts very little reward. While pledging UniBank’s continuous support to the clinic, he also appealed to other corporate institutions to come to their aid.

The Founder and Director of Shekhina Clinic Dr. David Abdulai who abandoned public service work as a medical practitioner in the late 80’s, said it is the only health institution in the country that treats the mentally ill, persons living with HIV and AIDS as well as leprosy for free.

According to him, he has been feeding the mentally sick people on the streets of Tamale since January 1992 by serving them one hot meal everyday as well as taking care of their health needs whenever any of them falls sick.

Dr. Abdulai thanked the management and staff of UniBank for their humanitarian gesture which he said was as a result of divine providence and promised to put the donation to good use.
