CLERGYMAN CALLS FOR TOTAL RECONCILIATION IN N/R


The Metropolitan Archbishop of Tamale, Most Reverend Philip Naameh, has called on Ghanaians especially citizens of the entire Northern Region to totally resolve their differences and reconcile for speedy development.

The Bishop of the Tamale Archdiocese of the Roamn Catholic Church bemoaned that factors such as discrimination, greed, ethnicity, hatred and prejudice have over the years divided most residents of the area and underscored the need to eschew such tendencies to eradicate poverty, ignorance and malnutrition which very much endemic in the region.

Most Rev. Naameh noted that government and development partners quest to improve the living conditions of people living in poor communities of the region would end in vain when the people fail to promote peace and unity.

The Catholic Archbishop of Tamale was addressing a mammoth gathering of the Muslim and Christian Clergy who jointly celebrated “Iftar” marking the ending days of the Ramadan period in Tamale under the auspices of the Inter-Religious Dialogue Committee.

He implored Christians all over the world to show respect and solidarity to Muslims most importantly during the period of Ramadan to boost peaceful co-existence.

The Archbishop further advised Ghanaian leaders to provide equal justice to all living in the country to build self-assurance and faith among citizens.

Sharing the Pope Benedict’s advance Id-ul fitr message to Muslims under the theme: “Christians and Muslims together in overcoming violence against nations,” he said the world needed peace and that could be achieved through dialogue in all human endeavours.

Dr. Alhaji Al-Hussein Zakariah, Chairman of the Inter-Religious Dialogue Committee gave the assurance that the committee would not renege on its responsibility to safeguard peaceful co-existence among the various religious sects in the Northern Region of Ghana.

He announced the Committee’s determination to organize more outreach programmes that will target at inculcating good morals in the youth.

Dr. Al-Hussein however complained that the Committee lacked resources to accomplish its assigned roles and therefore, solicited for enough funds from well meaning Ghanaians and Philanthropists.
