TEN PACKETS OF ROOFING SHEETS FOR LAMASHEGU RAINSTORM VICTIMS

Victims of a recent rainstorm in Lamashegu, a suburb of the Tamale Metropolis have been presented with Ten (10) packets of roofing sheets and quantities of roofing nails by the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly to enable them renovate their houses which were severely destroyed by the rainstorm.

The presentation of the items were done by Alhaji Abdulai Haruna Friday, Mayor of Tamale at a short ceremony at Lamashegu and witnessed by Mr. John B. Atogiba, Metroplitan Co-ordinating Director, Assembly Members and some of the affected residents.

Last week’s rainstorm which severely hit the Lamashegu township, ripped off the roofs of ten houses temporally rendering occupants of those houses homeless.

Alhaji Friday accompanied by officials of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) had earlier toured the affected areas in Lamashegu to console and assess the extent of damage to life and property.

Even though there was no reported loss of life, several properties worth thousands of Ghanaian cedis were destroyed leaving the victims with no place to lay their heads.

But savannahnews has learnt that most of the victims are perching with families and friends around the Lamashegu area.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Harruna Friday said the Assembly and the NADMO would together determine what further assistance they could offer to the rainstorm victims and appealed to Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), individuals and other philanthropists to come to the aid of the victims as a matter of urgency to alleviate their suffering.
