VAG LAUDS TAMALE METRO ASSEMBLY FOR CONTINUOUS SUPPORT

The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly has been lauded by the Veterans Association of Ghana (VAG) for its continuous support and show of recognition to members in the Northern Regional capital.

Commodore Steve Obimpeh (rtd), National Chairman of the Association said this in Tamale when Executives of VAG in the Northern Region led him and some National Executives to pay a courtesy call on Mayor of Tamale Alhaji Abudulai Harruna Friday, at the beginning of a day’s visit to members of the association in the region.

The visit of the National Chairman and his Executives to the region was to afford them the opportunity to interact with members of VAG and also get first hand information on some of their challenges and problems so as to find ways of addressing them.

He said having taken the leadership of the Association not too long ago, it was only proper that he toured the regions to introduce himself to the larger membership of the Association which has always been the norm.

According to him, the National Secretariat of the Association had been following with keen interest the support the Association in the Northern Region has been receiving from the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly over the years and mentioned the re-design and construction of a cenotaph at the forecourt of the Legions Village in Tamale as one of the most important support ever received from any institution in the Tamale Metropolis saying “the cenotaph has added to the beautification of the village”.

Commodore Obimpeh said the National Secretariat of the Association had embarked on a nation-wide initiative to ensure the holistic and accurate collection and storage of data on all members of the Association and this initiative could only be successful with a computer and its accessories and therefore made a passionate appeal to the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly for a computer and its accessories to enable the VAG in the region to achieve that goal.

For his part, the Mayor, Alhaji Abudulai Harruna Friday recalled his association with Commodore Obimpeh during the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) days and described him as a very upright and disciplinarian who did not mince words no matter the situation.

Alhaji Harruna Friday thanked commodore Obimpeh and the association for appreciating what the Assembly and the people of Tamale had done for the Association, and pledged the commitment of the Assembly to sustain the existing good cordial relations between the VAG and the Assembly.

The Tamale Mayor wished Commodore Obimpeh and the Veterans Association of Ghana well in all their endevours.
