Prez John Mahama |
The
Northern Regional Treasurer and Director of Elections for the National
Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Tanko Rashid Computer has been appointed as the
new Regional Coordinator of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) by the President,
John Dramani Mahama. His appointment has received the full endorsement from the
Coalition of NDC Youth groups in the region.
Mr.
Tanko Computer who is a former Regional Manager of the National Health
Insurance Authority (NHIA) is said to have spent over 20 years of his working
career with the NDC at the grass-roots.
His
appointment makes him a head over Mr. Abdul Moomin, who was in Acting Position
as the Regional Coordinator of YEA after the termination of the appointment of
the former Regional Coordinator, Mohammed Adam Amin “Abio” who joined the
parliamentary primaries of the NDC in Sagnarigu.
Earlier
this month, an NDC pressure group called the Gbewa Youth led by one Abdul Kudus
Mbinwaya came out to campaign for Mr. Abdul Moomin to be made a substantive
regional Coordinator but the final decision by the President to appoint Mr.
Tanko Computer as the Regional Coordinator designate for YEA annulled their
plea.

At
a Press Conference organized by the Coalition of the NDC Youth Groups led by
the Secretary of the Bukuru-Sung Youth, Abdulai Yakubu, the NDC youth said that
they solidly support the decision of the President and his choice of appointee
to the lead the YEA.
According
to them, even though they were fronting for Mr. Tanko Computer to become a Deputy
Minister of State, they were still much confident that the future of the
unemployed youth in the Northern Region would be much secured under the
leadership of the President’s appointee, Mr. Tanko Computer.
They
said that Mr. Tanko Computer as an astute politician had what it takes to make
the Northern Regional YEA one of the best and most attractive for the youth.
The NDC youth chronicled some of the innovations introduced by Mr. Tanko
Computer during his reign as Regional Manager of the National Health Insurance
Scheme.
He
is on records to have laid a solid management structure for the NHIS in the
region with the introduction of Assistants to Claims Officers, Public Relations
Officers, Accountants, Data Entry Clerks and MIS officers in all the 19 schemes
in the region, which innovation was adopted by the NHIA headquarters for all
the schemes across Ghana.
The
YEA Coordinator designate officially resigned as Northern Regional NHIA Boss
when he was transferred to the headquarters in Accra. “He could not understand
how he could effectively work as the Regional Director of Elections and as
Regional Treasurer whiles with the NHIA in Accra, hence his resignation in
order to concentrate on the activities of the NDC in the region”.
