CHRISTIAN MOTHERS URGED TO EMULATE VIRTUES OF HOLY MARY

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Tamale, Rt. Rev. Philip Naameh, has asked the Christian Mothers Association in the Roman Catholic Church to as a matter of fact, emulate the shining examples of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Mother of God, in order to attain success and wonders in their pursuit to strengthen women in the society.

The Archbishop said as Christian Mothers they were the makers of the society and should emulate the silent, obedient, patient and resilient nature of the Holy Mother of Jesus Christ in a way to keep a better and peaceful society.

According to Rt. Rev. Naameh, women were seen as the gateway to a successful family and should live beyond this expectation in this current global village.

This statement was made by Rev. Fr. Carolus M. Gambogi, Priest at the Holy Cross Parish on behalf of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Tamale at the 1st ever Ecclesiastical Provincial Christians Mothers Association conference held in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale.

The conference, which brought together five (5) dioceses from the three regions of the North –Upper West, Upper East and Northern Regions – was aimed at deliberating on issues affecting women in the North and how they could come together to better address the challenges confronting all women in the North.

The man of God said the Holy Virgin Mary never spoke much and anytime she spoke, her words were backed with meaning saying “if women can emulate her then there will not be any family misunderstandings in the society”.

Archbishop Naameh, however, related his emphasis to most women having marital problems explaining that if women were able to deal seriously into the ideals of Mother Mary and took the word of God serious, there would always be smiling faces in their marital homes.

He also called for unity among members of the Association, urging them to be ready to forgive each other whenever one went astray, adding “Mother Mary was able to forgive those who crucified his only begotten son”.

The National President of the Ecclesiastical Provincial Christian Mothers Association, Mother Clare Cynthia Derry, said as an association and the largest women group in Ghana as far as the Catholic Church was concerned, was geared towards tackling pertinent issues bothering women and intervening in various forms for the betterment of women in the country.

She enumerated that through the effort of the Association in advocacy, it has made women who were previously sidelined to participate in decision making processes in the country.

The President called for support from relevant state institutions and civil society organizations to join hands with the Christian Mother Association to empower Ghanaian women in decision making processes in the country.
