School children in the Central Gonja District, are worried about the poor attitude of teachers in the district to work.
"Instead of teaching, our teachers have been engaging in prolonged arguments on when they will be migrated onto the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSS) on which most of them have banked their hopes," Saherifa Zakanah, a pupil of Yapei Junior High School and spokesperson for the children, has said.
In view of this, the children, numbering over 1,000 from across the district, have appealed to the President to prevail on the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to speed up the processes of migrating teachers onto the SSSS.
Miss Zakariah also appealed to the district assembly to build a modern library for the pupils in Yapei.
She said many of the pupils in the district were not performing well academically because they lacked access to quality educational facilities, and called for more efforts to provide such facilities to improve education.
The District Chief Executive, Sualisu Be-Awuribe, in reading the President’s speech, assured teachers that by next month, they would be hooked onto the SSSS as the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission had concluded work on it.
He also reiterated government s commitment to improving teaching and learning at the basic school level by providing the necessary facilities and services.
Mr. Be-Awuribe advised the pupils to stick to their books and avoid truancy.
They should respect their teachers, parents and all others in authority stressing that "obedient pupils always succeed in life.
