JHS DROPOUTS TURN TEACHERS IN BUNKPURUGU/YUNYOO

JHS DROPOUTS TURN TEACHERS IN BUNKPURUGU/YUNYOO

Information reaching, Savannahnews from the Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo District of the Northern Region has indicated that Junior High School dropouts have been compelled to teach as volunteer teachers due to the refusal of runner-away teachers to return to post.

This is as a result of the longstanding bloody chieftaincy and land conflicts that occurred in parts of the area in recent times.

Aside the teachers who had run away for asylum, health personnel and other civil servants have also followed suite.

The only health facility in the Temaa community where hundreds of people were displaced during a war between two Konkomba clans in Temaa and Namong communities in April this year, was razed down beyond repairs.

The bizarre situation has left many pregnant women at the mercy of aged Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) with emergency cases being referred to the Baptist Medical Centre at Nalerigu in the East Mamprusi District.

The Yunyoo Dana Yamyia Tokah of the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo Paramountcy complained to this blogger including other journalists that the conflict situation has worsened the falling standard of education and healthcare delivery in the district.

The Yunyoo Dana said attempts to promote girl child education in the area have hit the rocks and this he observed would affect the district’s human resource development.

The chief therefore appealed to the Ghana Education Service and the Ghana Health Service to post enough teachers and health workers to the district to save residents from dying of hunger, illiteracy and diseases.
