The Paper gathered that the DCE still has his wife and children and other relatives occupying the bungalow consuming water and electricity at the expense of the state, whiles his successor is alleged to have been struggling for accommodation for the past one and half years.
Some Concerned Workers at the Tamale Central Prisons who made anonymous calls to Savannahnews accused Mr. Philip Laari of being unfair to his successor, the service and the government since he was fully aware of the serious accommodation problem facing the Prisons Service in the region.
They questioned whether the Former Director/DCE would have taken it kindly with those he took over from (his predecessors) as Prisons Director or DCE for Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo, if they had also refused to vacate their official residences in protest for their work benefits.
Meanwhile, further investigations conducted by this blogger have indicated that some former Directors and heads of Departments in the Tamale Metropolis still continue to depend on the meager government purse and also enjoy certain privileges they are indeed not supposed to.
Majority of them the paper gathered have been retired and are out of active service but they are still occupying government bungalows while their successors continue to struggle for accommodation or live in hotels, at the expense of the state.
The blogger has established that another Former Northern Regional Director of the Prisons Service, Mr. Agyei Korie, who was promoted to the Headquarters as one of the Directors of the Prisons Service in Accra has since not moved his family from the bungalow he was occupying in Tamale.
A visit by the paper confirmed that the wife and children of Mr. Korie are still living in the bungalow and also operating a Chop Bar in the house called “B&C Catering Services” after almost three years of his transfer to Accra.
At the time the paper visited the house of Mr. Agyei Korie his wife was not available and none of her maid servants was in the position to explain why they still live in the bungalow.
When contacted by The blogger however, the DCE for Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo, Philip Laari admitted still occupying the bungalow. According to him, he would only vacate the bungalow when every pesewa of his entitlement had been paid by the government.
Mr. Laari who seems to be drawing his confidence from his predecessor Agyei Korie who is also still occupying his bungalow, probably in protest of his entitlement, launched serious attack on the Concerned Workers for not being concerned about the government refusal to release his entitlement but are rather concerned about him leaving the bungalow for his successor.
The DCE challenged them to go to the Director General of Prisons Service to rather serve him with a notice of ejection and provide means of transport to convey his things and also pay off his entitlement, before he would vacate the place.
