We’re Fixing 4G Internet Problem in Tamale –MTN Tells Tamale Customers

The Northern Sector Area Sales Manager of MTN Ghana, Tawfiq Moomin, has attributed the erratic internet services currently being experienced by users of 4G phones in the Tamale and Sagnarigu areas to fibre cable cuts by thieves and other construction activities.

He however stated that, engineers of MTN Ghana were on the field working around the clock to rectify the problem and put in place measures to ensure that the problem did not recur.

For about a week now, many customers of 4th Generation (4G) network within the Tamale and Sagnarigu areas have been complaining about erratic internet services they receive.

As a result, some of these customers of MTN have suffered losses due to their inability to receive information via emails and other social media platforms sent to them by clients, business partners and colleagues at work.

Philip Liebs, a blogger and social media fanatic in Tamale says “I interact with a lot people including followers and clients via facebook, whatsApp and emails on a daily basis. For the past five days, when I sent a whatsApp message with my 4G phone it takes about a minute or two for the message to be delivered to the person on the other end.

“On facebook, it takes longer, about two to three minutes for a picture to be uploaded. At times messages sent to me via emails delay before they’re delivered. I mean, this is worrying and I think MTN should do something about it as soon as possible. During the rainy season we don’t experience this challenge but as soon as we enter the dry season, then these problems start”, he lamented.

But Mr. Moomin in an interview with Savannahnews at the 2017 edition of MTN Savanna Fest held in Tamale, appealed to residents particularly the 4G phone users to exercise some restraint as the engineers were trying very hard to fix the 4G internet problem.

He also implored residents to be on the lookout for persons who might approach them with cables to sell to report them if they suspect they were stolen cables belonging to any telecom operator.

On Savanna Fest, Mr. Moomin expressed satisfaction with the level of patronage by drawing a comparative analysis with this year’s event and previous years.

“We in MTN acknowledge the fact that, a healthy body means that we will have a health society and once we have a healthy society we will be able to achieve the developmental needs of the region. And so bringing together the various groups…keep fit organisations is one clear manifestation to achieve this particular aim of MTN Savanna Fest. And so today what we’re seeing here shows very significant progress over the years. We started the Savanna Fest initiative in 2012 and over the years we have evolved and gotten to this stage. Today as you can see the numbers were so encouraging…over a thousand people coming on board to take part in this exercise”, he indicated.

Savanna Fest is an annual event of MTN Ghana that brings together thousands of residents of the Upper West, Upper East and the Northern Regions at different locations in the respective regions to engage in various kinds of fitness exercises and other activities.

The objective is to boost the health of residents particularly the youth through physical exercises including jogging, walking, football and health screening.

At the Northern Regional Capital, Tamale, where staff of MTN Ghana made its first stop to hold this year’s edition of Savanna Fest, hundreds of young people and older folks from ten different Keep Fit Clubs, thronged the Jubilee Park to take part in a health walk dubbed “Walkathon”.

Amidst brass band music, they began the walk from the Jubilee Park through the Sakasaka-Agric road, made a U-turn at the Agric Traffic Light back to the Jubilee Park. At the Jubilee Park, participants were taken through various kinds of aerobic exercise.

The enthusiastic participants were also given free airtime in a competition called “fastest fingers”, where the airtime codes were mentioned for everyone who is an MTN subscriber to load on their phones.

Meanwhile, the whole event was crowned with a football gala at the Tamale Sports Stadium Training Pitch. About 16 teams competed in the football gala with the best performing teams taking home trophies, souvenirs and cash prizes.
