The Chairman of
Friends of Dr. Richard Kuuire Fun Club in Tamale, Dunstan Pagzu, has called on
all electorate from the Nandom Constituency to rally their support behind the
NDC parliamentary nominee and vote for him at the December 7 election.
According to him, the nominee of the National
Democratic Congress (NDC) Dr. Richard Kuuire had already demonstrated that he
was more capable of bringing development to the people of Nandom.
“Look around and you will see that what the
man is doing is worthy of commendation. In almost every community in Nandom, he
is either sinking a borehole, extending electricity or providing educational
resources to the people”, Mr. Pagzu told Savannahnews during a meeting
of members of the Fun Club in Tamale.
Friends of Dr. Richard Kuuire Fun Club, is a
socio-political group based in Tamale in the Northern Region. The main goal of
the Club is to canvass for support and votes for the aspiring parliamentary
candidate for the Nandom Constituency.
“What else can we expect to see before we
become convince that Dr. Kuuire can represent us as a people? He’s touching
lives and transforming the vision and aspirations of the Nandom people. This is
the right man for the job”, Mr. Pagzu indicated.
Mr. Pagzu also urged all electorate who lived
and worked outside Nandom to endeavour to go home and vote this year. “Some
electorate have over the years voted where they live and work. I want to
encourage every electorate who want to take part in the development process of
Nandom to transfer their votes home and vote for Dr. Kuuire and President John
Mahama come December 7”, he stressed.
The Organiser of the Club, Langsig Hippolyte,
also told this reporter that, “Zimuopare where I come from, there are
inadequate classrooms for children at the only basic school in the area. The
situation has been like that for many years until Dr. Kuuire came recently and
decided to build a six unit classroom block. We used not to have electricity
but now electricity is being extended through the whole community.
“On top of what he’s doing currently is the
fact that in the past, while working as a civil servant in the Ghana Prisons
Service (GPS), he supported many individuals from the Nandom area in his individual
capacity. He never thought of running for a political office one day while he
was doing all these things. He retired from the GPS and got another appointment
to work with the United Nations and whiles there, he continued to support his
people back home. Now if such a person comes around and ask us to vote for him
to represent us in parliament, do you expect us to reject him?”, he quizzed.
“We know that it will not be easy for Dr.
Kuuire because he’s competing with strong opponents from the NPP and PPP.
However, we’re working hard as a Fun Club to ensure that victory is his come
December 7. Also, the good news is that, hundreds of citizens of Nandom living outside
Nandom have now seen the need to transfer their votes to the constituency for
the first time because of Dr. Kuuire”, Mr. Langsig noted.
Dr.
Richard Kuuire is a professionally trained lawyer, prisons officer,
administrator and a military expert with over 33 years of working experience,
nationally and internationally. Ten years of this professional experience has
been working with the United Nations as a Corrections Adviser in prison
reforms/re-establishing prison systems in post-conflict environments and
general rule of law issues.
He
worked with the Ghana Prisons Service between 1980 and 2003, rising through the
ranks to becoming the Director General of the Service from November 2000 to
September 2003. In September 2007, he was appointed Corrections Policy Officer
at the UN Headquarters where he served as the Corrections Coordinator.
