Sagnarigu to Deal With Unemployment Through Education

DCE for Sagnarigu District

The District Chief Executive for Sagnarigu Alhassan Mohammed Soru-Gudoo has given an indication that, he would deal with the issue of education as one of his topmost priorities by ensuring adequate provision of resources that would culminate in efficient delivery and quality tuition.

Mr. Soru-Gudoo said education was key in the district’s development agenda if they had to tackle the myriad problem of unemployment now and in the future, adding “I’ll ensure that right from the basic level to the second cycle there are learning materials and trained teachers who will churn out brilliant people for our district.”

Speaking to this Savannahnews in an interview, he mentioned that, one of the ways the Sagnarigu District Assembly had also identified to deal with youth unemployment was by collaborating with foreign and local investors who were venturing into industrialization to recruit skilled and unskilled labour from the area.

According to DCE, the district currently has the largest industrial zone in the entire northern sector of the country and already food processing companies and those into post harvest loss management had started pitching camp. “Avnash….. a Brazilian rice processing company is almost ready to start business. There is also an American company that wants to establish warehouses for food storage and certainly, there will be some form of employment there too, for the youth.”

Mr. Suro-Gudoo also mentioned that, there were a lot of investment opportunities in the district citing the hospitality industry as one area investors could take advantage of to do business. “A greater percentage of first class hotels are located in the Sagnarigu district, and that is because there are prospects in the sector”, he said.

He reiterated his call on government to elevate the district to the status of a municipality because it was carved out of a metropolis. The population of the district, he said, was almost 150,000 and most of the well endowed public and private institutions were currently located in the area providing services of a municipality.
