THE FORMER Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama has vehemently condemned the growing culture of personal hatred, mistrust, disunity and frequent mob actions among Dagombas, which usually leads to loss of human lives and burning of public and individual properties.
Alhaji Aliu Mahama, who blamed the uncompromising positions taken by the Abudus and the Andanis, the two royal gates in the Dagbon Chieftaincy divide on some politicians and traditional leaders, therefore called on the people to always preach and practice peace in order to maximize the development fortunes of the north.
Addressing a meeting of Muslim Leaders at the Tamale Central Mosque as part of his two weeks visit to Tamale, Alhaji Aliu Mahama admonished the people not to allow self-seeking people to come in between them and also advised them to always resort to dialogue during disputes.
He used the visit to celebrate the Sallah with the Muslim Community and also paid tribute to the late Northern Regional Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Sumani Zakari, who died recently after some long ailment.
Alhaji Aliu Mahama expressed grave concern about the manner in which Dagombas in particular had gotten divided on political and chieftaincy lines and thus called for a rapid overturn of that stinking phenomenon.
The Former Vice President under the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) expressed the need for the people to develop forge ahead in unity and pull their resources together to transform the area and as well channel their wealth into fighting against poverty, illiteracy, ignorance and hunger which he described as their common enemy of progress.
He also pleaded with the youth to consider education as their major priority in life by rising up to the challenge of gaining higher academic laurels.
From the Central Mosque, Alhaji Aliu Mahama paid courtesy calls on the Chief of Tamale, Naa Dakpema Mohammed Alhassan Dawuni at his palace, Bamvim-Lana Mahama Abdulai, Choggu Naa Alhassan Salifu and one Mr. Sheriff Alhassan, the Managing Director of Savanna Constructions Limited, where he appealed to them to uphold the peace and the dignity of the north.
At the Dakpema Palace, the Former Vice President commended the Chief and his elders for the establishment of the Dakpema Educational and Peace Fund which he earlier made personal donation towards.
Naa Mohammed Dawuni also said his major priorities were in the areas of peace and quality education, hence the establishment of the Dakpema Educational and Peace Fund.
According to the Chief, as a result of the lead role he had played in advocating for peace in Tamale, some section of the youth had voluntarily surrendered their weapons, which he had also forwarded to the Police.
He was accompanied by the former Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, NPP National Women’s Organizer, Madam Otiko Afisa Djabah, NPP 2nd National Vice Chairman, Sheikh T.B Damba and other Regional Executives.
