Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has commissioned and handed over a clinic at Buya, a farming community in the Kpandai District of the Northern Region.

The project which was built at the cost of GH¢146,693.04 pesewas by the District Assembly was in fulfillment of government’s pledge to make quality healthcare service accessible to people living in underserved communities.

This formed part of the Deputy Local Government Minister’s five days official tour of the Northern Region to inspect both ongoing and completed projects executed by the various District Assemblies in the area.

Mr. Afriyie Ankrah handed over the keys to the Chief of Buya, Naaba Manlir Nagbiya and thanked residents of that community for voting massively for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the last elections.

He reiterated government’s commitment to develop the area to befit its status as one of the 32 newly created districts in the country.

Naaba Manlir Nagbiya expressed the appreciation of his people to government and appealed for the immediate posting of health personnel to keep the facility alive.

The Deputy Minister later on inspected ongoing construction works on a 10 bungalow project which when completed would provide accommodation for the District Chief Executive and other Heads of Department.

At a meeting earlier with staff of the Kpandai District Assembly, Mr. Elvis Afriyie
Ankrah informed them about certain amendments that had been introduced into the District Assembly Law for which reason the number of Unit Committee Members would be reduced drastically from 15 to five.

He added that part of the amendment required the need for the District Assembly Electoral Areas to be adjusted from 5,000 to 6,000 to be at par with the Electoral Commission boundaries.

Mr. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah assured them of government’s quest to expedite action on the Local Government Service Act that is expected to solve the problems of promotion, recruitment and remuneration.

He further indicated that the Single Spine Salary Structure would be implemented on pilot basis and that all public servants would have their share of it when it reaches their turn.

The District Chief Executive for Kpandai, Jasper Jato Moayi disclosed that the Assembly had been operating on a rented building since the district was created in 2008, hence the need to acquire a permanent office complex.

He also mentioned lack of residential accommodation and decentralized departments in the district which he noted was hampering the assembly’s progress.
