NDC MP ACCUSES PAST NPP ADMINISTRATION

A legislator in the majority side of Ghana’s Parliament Alhaji Amadu Seidu, has said that the low level of socio-economic development in the Northern Region should be blamed on successive governments’ deliberate refusal to continue projects and programmes initiated by their predecessors.

The Member of Parliament for Yapei-Kusawgu specifically condemned the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration for abandoning every single project by the Jerry John Rawlings’ P/NDC administration in the area.

The MP said this during the 2nd Ordinary Meeting of the Central Gonja District at Buipe, the district capital.

Mr. Alhaji Seidu’s comment was influenced by calls from the Assembly Members in his Constituency demanding the ruling NDC government to continue all projects that were started during Rawlings’ regime and have since been abandoned.

Lack of continuity indeed is a bad political practice which largely negates progress of every nation. However Ghana has been the worst victim of this practice for decades now simply because politicians will not want to give due credits to their opponents.

Alhaji Amadu Seidu also accused some of the Assembly Members for allowing politics to overshadow their right thinking in the assembly, instead of supporting the development efforts of their District Chief Executive and the ruling government.

He however assured the people of plans by government to continue all important projects and programmes initiated by the NPP administration and also initiate other new projects.

Addressing the meeting, the DCE for Central Gonja District, Sualisu Be-Awuribe said the assembly was constructing several schools, health centres, roads, improving on agriculture, creating jobs and building capacities of most youth in the area to go into profitable ventures.

In the area of revenue collection, the Central Gonja District mobilised about GH¢100,000 Cedis representing 81% of its 2010 target of GH¢124,000 Cedis between January and June this year.

Mr. Be-Awuribe also unveiled plans to provide more educational and health infrastructure throughout the district to improve the lives of the people.
